Come "Be With" us in Service!

At RATL, we believe that "being with is more transformative than doing for." Interested in serving with us? Explore the 2 ways you can join us in serving our families below!

BE WITH

LOCAL VOLUNTEERS

Local volunteers are invited to serve throughout the year at RATL during the After School Program, Monday Night Fellowships, School Year Programs, and/or Summer Camp Programming. These opportunities are during the day and allow volunteers a glimpse into the work we get to do.

BE WITH GROUP RETREATS

Not local? No problem! Our "Be With" Group Retreats allow teams of volunteers to come to Atlanta and stay on-site overnight with RATL at Solomon’s Temple. For 2-7 nights groups have the opportunity to eat with, serve and build relationships with our women and children. During Be With Programs, teams join together in discipleship, discussion, and participate in volunteer education. This experience is great for missions trips and alternative breaks as well as youth groups, college groups, or church small groups!

RATL is passionate about building a healthy and realistic perspective on what homelessness is and how to, above all else, bring dignity to those we serve. Volunteer Education is led by RATL during the Be With Group Retreats and explores how we can love and equip the families we have the honor to walk alongside.

  • "I absolutely loved my time at RATL, and I would love to serve the community here again. Everyone was so kind, including the children, mothers, and staff. It truly felt like a family here."

  • "Through my experience at RATL I learned that it is more effective to serve others with humility and respect than it is to throw money at an organization. While funds are obviously important, I find it more effective for myself and my character development as well as the people and community around me to take the time and effort to build a relationship with those around me while committing to passion projects to serve others and make each other better people. For me, taking the time to put my phone away, remove myself from distractions, and talk to the children and families gave me more insight to the familial structure and all the struggles that come with homelessness. My appreciation for working mothers has grown significantly, and I cannot wait for the upcoming chapters in my life where I can continue to serve communities like RATL."

    Katerina S.

  • "The most meaningful part of my time at RATL was being able to dismantle the preconceived notions of what homelessness looks like and how it comes to be. Another was being able to understand the people on a humane level and being able to talk to them and just be one with them in the moment."

    Ohio State University Volunteer

  • "Through my time at RATL I learned how much value and impact there is in giving some of your time to others. Additionally, I’ve learned how I can better support others through connection and conversation. After this experience, I’m excited to engage further with communities in need."

    Ohio State University Volunteer

  • "One example of "being with" for me was when we were all playing BINGO. I was finally able to connect with a mom and her children. It didn’t matter whether she was a millionaire or not, it was just the quality time that made us both feel mutually excited to be together while playing a simple game."

  • "My time at RATL was a great opportunity to have more exposure to working with children. I’ve always known that I enjoyed being around kids, and through this experience I was able to learn how much I find meaning and satisfaction in this type of service."

    Ohio State Volunteer

  • "The most meaningful aspect of our visit to RATL for me has been meeting the staff and connecting with the kids. Everyone here was wonderful to meet and I feel very grateful to have spent time at RATL."

    Ohio State Volunteer

  • "The best example of "being with" was all the collaborative games the adults and children played together. Just spending time with the kids was enough to brighten their day, and watching their faces light up as they watched us wait for them at the doors was incredibly rewarding."

    Ohio State Volunteer

  • "RATL is like an oasis in the middle of a desert where it’s full of life and colors. Although it may not be a place to stay permanently, it’s a transitional place where people can rest and recharge."
